April Fools Freaky Friday Session
A classic story. The party does a high five in a magical place, and the sheer awesomeness released by the moment causes their brains to all swap into each others’ bodies. For a wild April Fools Session, lets give it a shot.
Try swapping character sheets with your party
You can choose any method of it that you want. Throw the sheets in a pile and redistribute, ask for people’s favorites, or pair up and trade.
I like to pair up and trade. Swap your character sheets, and then take 5-10 minutes to review them. Get ready for a lot of distraction here. People will make fun of each others’ handwriting, someone may see that their character’s skills haven’t been updated in 3 levels, and others may find whole sections of the sheet is blank.
This is an expected part of the weirdness you’ll hit today. During session, you’re going to have to work with your teammates to figure out “what this chicken scratch means” or why their attack bonus is half the size of everyone else’s.
Enjoy the Chaos
There are a lot of ways to play a character. The game Pathfinder 2 highlights this with their action system, allowing a fighter to make the choice between spending all three actions attacking, spending an action to move to a better position and one to raise their shield, and then only attack once, or spend an action to grab an enemy and two to attack at a higher bonus.
Every character in the party may end up functioning differently with the new players running them. Hopefully, you figure out how to run them well. Pay attention to others playing your character! You may learn something.
side benefit - Double checking sheets
A weird side benefit that I’ve seen happen with these kinds of sessions is that when everyone has to review each others’ character sheets… they review each other’s character sheets. If your new character sheet has the wrong attack bonus because their original player didn’t bother updating it, it is in your best interest to fix that. Teamwork!
But remember just to have fun
Its gonna be a weird session. Try doing funny voices as a joke of each other. Try using their abilities in weird ways. You don’t get to play a totally different character every week, so take advantage!
